 
Professor Piotr Kasprzak MD, PhD, Dr H.C. mult.

In 1974, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Lodz. From 1980 to 1982, he completed a two-year specialist internship in vascular surgery at the Vienna-Lainz Hospital. From 1984 to 1995, after obtaining his first and second degree specialization in surgery in Poland, as well as general surgery and vascular surgery in Bavaria, Germany, he worked as deputy head of the department under Professor Dieter Raithel in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Nuremberg Clinic. He participated intensively in scientific research in Vienna and Nuremberg, which resulted in his doctoral thesis comparing two surgical methods for carotid artery stenosis, entitled "The Eversion Technique vs. Classical Carotid Endarterectomy; Results of a Prospective Comparative Study," and his award of a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Erlangen on March 29, 1996. Since 1995, he has worked initially as Head of Vascular Surgery at the Clinic and Polyclinic of Surgery, from 2015 to 2017 as Head of the Independent Department of Vascular Surgery, and currently as a Senior Specialist in this department, at the University of Regensburg (Germany). Based on his habilitation thesis, entitled "The Eversion Technique vs. Classical Carotid Endarterectomy: Results of a Prospective Comparative Study" on April 18, 2013, the Faculty Council of the University of Regensburg approved the habilitation of Dr. Piotr Kasprzak, MD, in the discipline of medicine, specializing in surgery, and awarded him the title of associate professor. On November 19, 2014, the candidate was awarded the title of associate professor at the University of Regensburg based on his research and teaching activities. From 2011 to 2017, he served as a member of the Executive Committee and treasurer of the European Society for Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery (ESCVS), and organized the 2013 congress in Regensburg. On May 11, 2020, he was awarded the title of professor of medical and health sciences. He has been awarded honorary doctorates three times: Medical University of Warsaw, Poznań University of Medical Sciences and Wrocław University of Medical Sciences.

As a leader in Polish Vascular Medicine Professor Gałązka MD PhD conducted a pioneer surgeries: first in Poland in-situ laser fenestration of abdominal aortic stentgraft and aortic arch stentgraft, first in Poland implantation of Nexus aortic arch stentgraft system, first in Poland implantation of E-xtra Design Multibranch stentgraft system with Artivex thoracic extension. Professor Arkadiusz Jawień, MD, PhD

The most recognizable Polish vascular surgeon in the world, whose successful work has made the Clinic of Vascular Surgery and Angiology in Bydgoszcz one of the leading clinical centers in the field of vascular surgery in Europe. His scientific achievements include almost 700 publications, measured by a Hirsch Index of 22 and over 3,000 citations. Throughout his academic career, Prof. Arkadiusz Jawień participated in numerous important research internships at clinical centers abroad, which allowed him to acquire extensive knowledge and experience and resulted in the introduction and development of new medical technologies and organizational activities in Poland, including: The introduction of laparoscopic surgery, epidemiological studies in chronic venous disease, increasingly effective minimally invasive treatment of vascular diseases, the use of branched and fenestrated stent grafts for thoracoabdominal aneurysm surgery, and, in terms of organizational activities, the establishment of a chronic wound care clinic and the development of a model for the treatment of venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers, a major step towards establishing a system of care for patients with chronic wounds in the country. Professor Jawień is also a recognized and valued activist both nationally and internationally, participating in the work of numerous scientific societies. He was a founding member of the European Venous Forum and its president, an activist and board member of the Polish Society of Phlebology, a guest at numerous scientific congresses and invited lectures, and a member of the editorial boards of scientific journals. For his work and activities, he has received numerous awards and distinctions, both nationally, regionally, and internationally. He is also a recognized educator and academic teacher, a patron of many young scientists.

Professor Szymon Darocha, MD, PhD, FESC

Szymon Darocha is a chest physician and invasive cardiologist working at the Department of Pulmonary Circulation, Thromboembolic Diseases and Cardiology in Otwock, Poland. He is a Professor in The Center of Postgraduate Medical Education in Warsaw. As an expert in the field of pulmonary circulation and right ventricular failure, he is a coordinator of the regional Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (CELZAT) and a leader of the Programme for Baloon Pulmonary Angioplasty in the treatment of Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Disease. He is active in the acute and long-term care of patients with pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, also including novel endovascular strategies. His main clinical and scientific interest is the evaluation of the invasive treatment in improving the quality of life, functional capacity and hemodynamics for patients with acute and chronic pulmonary embolism.
